Your Church's Disaster Mission Statement

Pastors,

At the Metropolitan Association's Spring Meeting I shared folders with many of you. In the folders were information, one of which was a template for a "Disaster Mission Statement."

A Disaster Mission Statement helps you to clearly define the main elements of your disaster response. Below you will find the information that I shared in the folders.

Your disaster mission statement defines the role your church will play in disaster preparedness, response, and/or recovery within your community. Below is a template of suggested language to give you a set of guidelines to develop this statement. Choose the options from each field below that best suit your church's specific situation and intended role in an emergency.

Disseminate emergency preparedness information for various emergency scenarios Participate in and/or conduct drills for various emergency scenarios

Your Next Steps:

1) Utilize the suggested language in the template above (separately or in combination), or provide wording that makes sense for your organization, to develop your organization's custom-made disaster mission statement;

2) Have your organization's governing body approve your disaster mission statement.
